The Woodbrook Hunt Club branched out this year with its service programs to educate local riders on the sport of foxhunting. We reached out to our oldest members who have lost touch with the Club for a special tea party in our historic clubhouse so they could once again connect with the Club and its members. Together with the united states pony Club, we held a mounted and unmounted education event that allowed junior riders in the pacific northwest to earn their foxhunting certification. We expanded the junior involvement with a new jumping/gymkhana day that brought in many first-time juniors to a whc event. And we partnered with our national chapter, the masters of foxhunting association to hold our first qualifier for the national field hunter championships. Whc continues to offer one of the lowest dues rates in the us so that riders of all means may participate in our sport; this is offset by member-led work parties and fund raisers. Twice a year we open the sport to new riders by offering hunts with no guest fees. Whc rides on a joint army and airforce base, joint base lewis-mcchord, and this year we partnered with them to clear our Hunt country of invasive plants and they learned about our sport and we learned about the native prairies and endangered animal and plant species with whom we share our riding land.we also have started using social media to share the history of foxhunting for special events like the ancient blessing of the hounds Hunt, and encourage new participation by inviting the public to popular events like triple crown parties at the clubhouse where they can learn about our sport.
