Program areas at Womens Voices Now
Film collection - a free online film collection, Voices for change, raises awareness of the struggles and triumphs of women adn girls around the globe. The collection provides a platform for authentic and diverse stories about women and girls, that benefit all. Each film in the living, growin collection includes calls to action and additional educational resources for viewers. Voices for change includes 340+ films from 71 countries in 50 different languages. In 2024 alone, we attracted over 8.2 million online viewers. We also were able to offer our first paid film collection internship.
Film festival - our annual Womens Voices Now film festival is an international Womens rights documentary film festival that seeks to address the lack of authentic representation of women in film. Since 2011 we have received 1,382 film submissions from 97 countries. Awarded $143,500 in cash prizes. Gathered online audience members from 195+ countries. As of 2024 we actively work with over 300 filmmakers, nurturing a community of filmmakers.
Girls Voices Now - a youth development program empowering the next generation of youth from under-resourced communities to find, develop and use their voice for social change through filmmaking. As of 2024 we serve 104 girls from under-resourced communities in los angeles. The program has produced 28 youth-made short films which have been selected and awarded in 145 film festivals and seen by 4.3 million viewers. Our youth made films have been nominated, once for a daytime emmy (2021), and once for a childrens & family entertainment emmy (2024), and won the daytime emmy in 2021.
Artist-in-Residence - The Artist-in-Residence program is a collaborative initiative hosting one guest filmmaker to contribute to the curating of the Women's Voices Now Voices for change film collection program, expand the network and outreach of WVN film festival, and for the filmmaking to explore opportunities in the Los Angeles area to further their personal artistic projects.
