Program areas at Womens for Healthy Rural Living
Incredible Edible Milbridge (IEM): Grew 10,000 pounds of free-pick-your-own food at the IEM gardens. Offered four workshops providing education about vegetable gardening, pollinator gardening, and growing/using herbs and garlic. Hosted eight Harvest Table Cooking classes. Partnered with five different volunteer groups. Conducted garden tours with four different groups. Offered seeding reading story program at Milbridge Elementary School. Partnered with Mano en Mano with a Children's Day. Overall experienced a 30% increase participation with IEM program participation.
Outdoor Women Lead (OWL): Conducted twelve monthly Outing Group Hikes. Held OWLette Summer Camp for Girls. Held three Outdoor Skills Building Workshops including orienteering, canoeing, and wilderness first aid. Hosted Women's Retreat - Insight & Inspiration. Overall, experienced a 25% increase in OWL program participation.
Groups & Services: We held six book groups that met 21 times with 64 participants. Offered three six-week yoga sessions. Introduced Chair Yoga, Zumba, and Zumba Gold to our movement programming. We continued hosting BoneBuilder with 93 class sessions in 2023. We hosted four craft programs teaching skills, including sewing, needle felting, flower arranging, and sock knitting. Raised over $1,277 in a diaper drive and distributed them through two local food pantries. Hosted Women Infant and Children clinics serving 103 local families. Granted one Elaine Hill Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Hosted the Tax Aid Program to assist local residents in completing their taxes.
