Program areas at Woman (Woman Inc)
Approximately 600 survivors completed intakes for our counseling services, including support group, peer counseling, inquiries and therapy. Approximately 20 new participants in our Latinx Program. Approximately 14,000 calls on our domestic violence support line. Approximately 150,000 visits to our membership based, online database, the DVIRC. Support Groups: W.O.M.A.N., Inc.'s most popular services, nonjudgmental support groups allow survivors to connect with peers, reduce isolation, and build a support network. Unique to W.O.M.A.N., Inc., we offer both a "DV 101" group and more in-depth groups to meet survivors at differing stages of their journeys - e.g. groups focusing on folks who have left their relationships, but are having trouble starting their healing story. Further, our groups provide pathways for survivors to build community and to become involved with the organization, helping it guide its services and vision. Domestic Violence Support Hotline: Trained advocates provide crisis intervention, peer counseling, and emergency referrals 24 hours a day on a multilingual crisis line. W.O.M.A.N., Inc. also anchors the community by using our hotline to provide after-hours access to advocates on behalf of partner organizations serving those impacted by violence. Domestic Violence Information and Referral Center (DVIRC): Our innovative, online interactive community network allows domestic violence service providers and member agencies statewide to share, network, and access updated information in real time so that effective resources and referrals are offered to survivors when they need help. Peer Counseling: Drop-in peer counseling services include crisis intervention, peer counseling and support, shelter information, and plans on how to stay safer (both in-person and virtual services are available).Therapy: Intensive support is provided for survivors and their loved ones as they deal with the extensive and often devastating emotional effects of domestic violence. Community Education: We provide community education about domestic violence at schools, libraries, businesses, community events, and in digital formats such as our website, blog, and podcast (a particular focus since the pandemic began). Volunteer Recruitment and Training: Volunteers are trained to support our work on the support line, in community outreach, in administration, and in fundraising (using a hybrid online/in-person training model). Latinx Program: culturally responsive and humble therapy, peer counseling, support groups, and other W.O.M.A.N., Inc. services and resources are provided in Spanish by staff members that are predominantly women of color (most of whom are Latinx). Echando Pa'lante (Moving Forward): ongoing, Spanish-language, survivor-led group of graduates of our Latinx program who work as ambassadors of the organization offer outreach, education, training, and advocacy to prevent future violence, as well as helping the agency guide its services and vision. This group is also a continuing lesson in participant leadership and breaking down the hierarchy between organization and community.
