Program areas at White Center Community Development Association
Economic Development - the economic Development program works to create community-led, anti-displacement, and anti-racist strategies and policies to create a more equitable economy in White Center. Cultivating and amplifying black, indigenous people of color (bipoc) voices of small business owners, residents, and youth are central to resisting displacement.
Fiscal sponsorship: the White Center Community Development Association (wccda) provides administrative and financial sponsorship to bipoc-led organizations in White Center and seattle that lack 501(c)(3) status. This program enables these groups to secure funding for initiatives supporting bipoc and lgbtqia+ communities. By empowering grassroots efforts, wccda enhances Community engagement, addresses poverty and racial disparities, and supports projects aimed at fostering social change and advancing racial equity.
White Center hub - this is a collaborative project initiated by the White Center neighborhood advisory council, aiming to establish a haven embodying "hope, unity, and belonging." It aspires to provide affordable housing and crucial services, fostering stability and opportunity for local working families. This initiative pays homage to the ancestral lands of the salish peoples while emphasizing a collective engagement in this meaningful conversation within these sacred homelands.
Community building - increase resident voices by promoting and supporting resident-led activities, strengthening resident leadership, and creating opportunities to build relationships that result in a vibrant, multi-ethnic, and proud sense of Community.
Family Development - we are dedicated to supporting the Development and growth of White Center's early learners, young adults, and families by providing access to resources, fostering knowledge, facilitating leadership opportunities, and forging connections within the Community. Programs such as the play and learn initiative and the promise celebration offer a space for children and caregivers to engage, learn, and build a sense of Community.
Data & evaluation: collects and analyzes data across all program work in order to develop reports on program effectiveness and inform program planning and the White Center Community.
