Western States Center connects and builds the power of community organizations, challenges and transforms individuals, organizations, and systems to achieve racial, gender, and economic justice. The center strengthens the organizing capacity of often-marginalized communities with an emphasis on gender and racial justice. It provides training, leadership development, and organizational capacity support to social justice movement leaders.

Program areas at Western States Center

Momentum - equipping individuals and institutions to be resilient in the face of organized bigotry, momentum is a leading voice on countering white nationalism in america. Momentum partners with those at the state, local, and municipal levels who share our commitment to shrinking space for hate, creating new tools and innovative methods designed in concert with each community we meet. Momentum believes that white nationalism can be dismantled through broad, courageous, and values-based coalitions.
Special projects - Western States Center's special projects work with artists, influencers, and visionaries to embrace their place at the table of our democracy, our special projects offer a cultural laboratory for increasing civic engagement, shifting narratives, and communicating visions of a future that is multiracial, multifaith, and inclusive to all. Outpacing organized bigotry, we go where others won't in shaping culture. Our projects inspire audiences, fans, and followers to do the same.
Common good - the common good program works to build awareness of the threat antisemitism poses to american democracy. We work with civic leaders, artists, creatives, philanthropists, students, and faith and community leaders to develop the leadership skills and insights needed to build broad-based, democracy-minded coalitions, especially across racial, religious, and ethnic difference, to neutralize the ongoing threat of antisemitic ideologies to all americans.
Other programs include general programs, gender justice, racial equity, culture lab, tribal sovereignty, and Oregon recovers.
