Program areas at Western Rivers Forestry

Western Rivers Forestry was formed in 2013 to support the conservation and charitable purposes of Western Rivers conservancy. In december 2013, Western Rivers Forestry acquired 8,489 acres of land along tributaries to northern California's klamath river. In march 2015, Western Rivers Forestry purchased an additional 6,479 acres of land. Western Rivers Forestry now owns 14,968 acres of land, including 8,524 acres in the blue creek salmon sanctuary and 6,444 acres within the yurok tribal community forest. In 2016, Western Rivers Forestry initiated a carbon offset project on these lands under the California global warming solutions act of 2006 ("ab 32"). Continued on schedule o.since 2017, Western Rivers Forestry has been issued 1,103,300 California compliance offset credits. Of these, 851,066 offsets have been sold to a California covered entity, 40,000 offsets were sold to an offset brokerage firm and 212,234 offsets have been contributed to the buffer pool as required by the forest carbon project protocol. In fiscal year 2021, 98,567 California compliance offset credits issued, of which 39,606 were sold to a California covered entity, 40,000 were sold to an offset brokerage firm and 18,961 were contributed to the buffer pool.the yurok tribe is now co-managing these lands with Western Rivers Forestry and in line with our conservation vision. These lands will ultimately be conveyed to the yurok tribe to help ensure the survival of salmon and steelhead throughout the klamath system and protect vital wildlife habitat within one of the most biologically diverse regions on the planet.
