URBAN FARM NETWORK PROGRAMS oc eect e nnn enna enenenanee anne WE CAN Urban Farm Network (UFN) programs promote sustainable 21st century land use, Food Security, and conservation efforts in low-income, inner city communities, and works to provide access to low cost, healthy, fresh produce and food goods for residents of "food deserts” in South Los Angeles. The Urban Farm Network partners with the non-profit Dream Center in Los Angeles distribute "rescue food” to local community residents, with food distributions twice every week throughout the calendar year UEN works with LADWP and local community residents to eliminate turf grass from yards, replace it with drought resistant Plants and shrubs, with special emphasis on plants and trees that also are sources for food and medicinal use UEN provides information, resources and distribution in support of local food production and the establishmentof backyard “microfarms”. UEN provides information and programming that supports economic inclusion of inner city residents in development of the New Green Workforce, through workshops, skillset training, and on-site job experience
EDUCATIONAL TUTORIAL SERVICES WE CAN tutorial programs have been drastically reduced since the end of NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND legislation that had funded our after-school! tutorial programs in scores of Los Angeles school districts since 2005. Currently, WE CAN operates a neighborhood * community center where local students are provided accessto various tutorial services,including after-school supplemental education in mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), science, and computer technology, as well as preparation for GRE and SAT exams
FOOD DONATION SERVICES WE CAN collects and provides food donation services to the South Los Angeles area, recieiving donated food fromthe Deram Center and the First Bank food donation programs. WE CAN then delivers the food items to various centralized locations where indigent people can access and take home the free food offerings. This service is offered twice each week at no charge to the public Revenue is all in-kind contributions of food and supplies
