Program areas at WCI

Government relations - developed relationships with congressional legislators, and the us army corps of engineers and the inland waterways users board, to advocate for modern, efficient lock and dam infrastructure in order to maintain the nation's system of ports and inland waterways.

Held a Washington, dc meeting and an annual meeting (pittsburgh, november 6-8) to inform and educate members and others regarding new and upcoming legislation affecting the industry, each attended by approximately 175 members and organization staff. The annual meeting included presentations on various topics important to the industry.

Promoted a positive public awareness of the national economic,societal, and environmental benefits of a modern and well maintainedports and inland navigation system. The organization's communicationplan included newspaper and magazine articles, press releases, educational videos, and a tv commercial.
