Program areas at EarthGen
Environmental science units: Earthgen's science units help teachers increase students environmental literacy and build their critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in culturally relevant ways. One example is "zombie guacamole," a series of hands-on lessons in which students explore the food system and its environmental impacts. Other units, including "energy matters and "breathing easier" engage students in learning and action projects that address local environmental issues.
Stormwater stewards: stormwater stewards builds students knowledge of their local watersheds and sources of pollution, and design green stormwater solutions that improve community health. Teachers receive resources and training and students connect with professionals from environmental careers. Select schools partner with Earthgen to install green stormwater infrastructure projects, such as rain gardens, on school campuses.
Climate education: Earthgen provides professional development and resources for educators to teach students about climate change, its local impacts, and solutions. Driven by the state science standards, the program strengthen students and teachers knowledge and skills. Earthgen collaborates with educators, school districts, scientists, and community partners to make climate change learning and action accessible and relevant for youth and communities across the state.
Green schools certification: the schools certification program supports students to lead environmental action projects in their schools and communities. From reducing waste to cultivating gardens, certification projects engage the whole school community in advancing environmental sustainability. With resources from Earthgen to complete the process, schools receive recognition and rewards when they certify at one or more levels.
