Program areas at Washington Autism Alliance
Health law legal Advocacy - waa's health law program provides individual and systemic reform legal Advocacy to help individuals with Autism spectrum disorder (asd) and other developmental disabilities and their families gain access to medically necessary healthcare, treatment and services. These legal services include representation in public and private insurance administrative and court appeals of denials, terminations or reductions of medically necessary services and treatment, and other access.
Community engagement - waa's community engagement program plans, directs or coordinates outreach, training, enrichment and civic engagement opportunities for clients throughout Washington state.
Education legal Advocacy - along with our free legal clinic, 1:1 coaching by an attorney or senior legal assistant, conflict resolution and legal representation in education disputes, blueprints to special education training workshops to help families navigate the iep system, waa's special education law library offers tools to help families advocate for the special education accommodations their child needs. In addition, we help identify services and support, working with care providers and other agencies to ensure children have access to the educational support they need, regardless of economic, language or cultural barriers. Our programs and community groups work to ensure that people with Autism spectrum disorder (asd) and related intellectual and developmental disabilities (idd) have every opportunity to thrive and be productive through workshops, social and recreational activities. Waa offers blueprints to special education training workshops that provide practical information about everything from regulations governing insurance and educational benefits, to how to enhance parental relationships with their child. This workshop is presented by special education attorneys who explain how to use the building blocks of federal and state laws to develop appropriate services for your learner. Also parents, teachers and other caregivers can learn to help those on the Autism spectrum realize their full potential. The supporting parents of Autism (spa) online support network allows parents to share struggles, challenges and joys.
