Program areas at VyC

Outreach and education - our innovative training programs are designed to give promotores the information, skills and understanding they need to communicate with and advocate for their communities through training on health, education, immigration and other issues important to individuals and families. Implementation of health care reform and the ongoing immigration dialogue at the federal level all have significant implications for our state, and are issues central to promotores and community workers.
Training and education - skilled trainers develop and deliver culturally and liguisically relevant core skills and content-specific training curricula that build promotores' skills to effectively engage with community members, understand their role in improving health and wellness, facilitiate group formation, and improve speaking skills.
Network - the network is a forum for promotores and community health workers to exchange information related to access, quality of care, health disparities, emerging issues in community health, health policy, healthcare reform, and professional development. The network provides promotores and community health workers with the skills they need to understand and interpret the theory, methodology and evaluation associated with their community work enabling them to feel confident in a changing world. The network validates the promotores as the community experts who determine community priorities via a consensus building process. Today, this network represents over 4,000 promotores in 14 regions, 13 in California and 1 region Nevada and is also a national network to include additional community networks in four additional states: Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Arizona.
Conferences - vyc's annual conference is a national convening that hosts 1000 promotores and community health workers in two and a half days of workshops that promote learning, professional networking and celebration of accomplishments. Smaller regional conferences include the bay area regional, central valley, stanislaus, yolo and the san fernando valley/la conferences.
Other services for advocacy, policy, lobbying and family and community development.
