Program areas at VBRI
Biomedical Research. In 2022, VBRI's biomedical research program supported eight projects in the areas of diabetes and hypertension, gulf war illness, mental health, neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease, and traumatic brain injury. Research projects were funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and New Jersey Commission for Brain Injury Research.
Education. In 2022, VBRI launched a new colon and lung cancer screening education program for Veterans, family members, caregivers and healthcare providers with over 20 educational events held engaging over 800 participants. In addition, VBRI supported educational activity that included training for Veterans, family members, caregivers and healthcare providers in a variety of deployment related health concerns.
Clinical Research. In 2022, VBRI's clinical research program supported fifteen projects serving nearly 100 Veteran and caregiver research participants in the areas of airborne hazards and other deployment related illnesses, cancer, diabetes and hypertension, gulf war illness, mental illness and behavioral health, neurological disorders, pulmonary function, spinal cord disorders, and traumatic brain injury.
