The u.sUs.s. Lumber Coalition works to address canada's unfair softwood Lumber trade practices, including its gross under-pricing of timber on government-owned lands. The Coalition seeks for canada to allow fully open market competition to determine the price of timber and for canada to rescind policies that result in artificially high timber harvesting and Lumber production.
The u.sUs.s. Lumber Coalition works to support negotiations between the united states and canada aimed at a new, stable, and sustainable softwood Lumber trade agreement. This includes monitoring and analysis to ensure that any new u.s.-canada softwood Lumber trade agreement would offset the negative effects of subsidized and unfairly traded softwood Lumber products imported from canada.
The Coalition monitors canadian subsidies and undertakes continuous work to protect and assert the rights of u.sUs.s. Lumber manufacturers under the u.sUs.s. trade laws to offset the unfair advantages provided to its canadian counterparts by government subsidies and log export restrictions.
