Program areas at Urban Impact
Economic development: three major initiatives; rainier health and fitness a community fitness center serving over 1300 members with group and personal training, cross fit, fitness classes in person and online programming. Gym utilization exceeds industry average with strong focus in building community among members. Thrive business accelerator, sharks at the beach entrepreneurship programs and covid relief support served nearly 100 business owners and built social capital, knowledge capital, and financial capital, resulting in sustainability and positioned business owners for long term growth.
Youth development: Urban Impact has a long history and commitment to youth development throughout south king county. Our programs range from school and community based youth outreach, an Urban art center, dance and music production, youth mentoring and a youth leadership network. We recently launched a critical response initiative in collaboration with partner organizaitons that supports youth and families impacted by gun violence. King county youth chaplaincy focuses on youth involved with the juvenile detention system - providing mentoring, counseling, education, parenting and life skills training for young adults and their families. In total serving 175-200 young people monthly.
Church based community development focused on neighborhood transformation through youth and family outreach: Urban Impact serves in 3 distinct neighborhoods: the central district, the macadam corridor in tukwila and rainier beach/rainier valley. We train and equip neighborhood churches to address critical needs, create solutions and provide resources for families in their neighborhoods. This is done through tutoring, children and youth outreach, mentoring, virtual education support, after school programs, refugee resettlement, food distribution, and financial support. Emerald city commons affordable housing community provides a stable home for 61 families, with education, out of school time and community support programs. In total we touch 300-350 families a week.
Racial reconciliation
