Program areas at University of California Student Association
Our top priorities and accomplishments in 2020-21 were to ensure that uc Student issues and concerns were heard in University of California systemwide decisions and that students were fully educated and informed about these decisions. Ucsa conducted several student-led campaigns, including acquire, fund the uc, ucwevote, and racial justice now. Acquire assumes that academic success depends on the availability of holistic resources and protections and advocates for their availability to students. Some of these resources and protections may include, but are not limited to: safety from interpersonal violence, sexual violence, and hate crimes; retention services; mental and physical health services; academic accommodations; and support for basic needs. As the official voice of the uc students, ucsa also nominates students to sit on uc systemwide committees and select uc regent standing committees. These committees deal with critical policy issues that affect every Student in the uc system, and in some cases students beyond the uc. Annually, ucsa conducts three large educational conferences: the ucsa Student organizing summit, the uc Student of color conference, and the Student lobby conference. At these conferences, and on campuses on a regular basis, we educate students about the issues that are affect them as students and how to take action on those issues. We create and distribute supportive materials on these issues that are distributed on campuses, including the state budget and how it might impact students.
Fund the uc focuses on ensuring affordability, quality, and access to the University of California by eliminating all tuition and fees, restoring per Student funding to adequate levels, and maintaining financial aid for cost of living and other costs of attendance. Ucwevote was established for the purpose of increasing the legislative power of the Association and its constituents through organizing non- partisan Student voter registration, education, and turnout efforts for every state and federal election on uc campuses. Racial justice now is a campaign to end the school to prison pipeline and diversity education, while securing funding to support the recruitment and retention of students of color. (continues below)
