American diplomacy project: contractor activities to implement recommendations of the "blueprints for a more modern u.s. Diplomatic service" included conducting meetings with congressional representatives and staff to inform key members and committee staff about the blueprints, with a focus on training and professional development and the establishment of a diplomatic reserve corps. Notably, draft language in the fy-2025 national defense authorization act (ndaa) included language supporting training and professional development objectives of the blueprints. The contractor continues to work with congressional members and staff to draft and sponsor a bill to establish a diplomatic reserve corp. The contractor has engaged regularly with department of state leadership to ensure that activities are consistent with the secretary's modernization agenda and has conducted a vigorous public outreach program to garner public interest in and support for the proposed reforms contained in the blueprints. The project remains ongoing.
Meridian-cox foreign service seminar for emerging leaders: the Cox Foundation and meridian international center jointly developed and hosted a successful seminar that brought students from around the country to Washington dc for a week of orientation to careers in the u.s. foreign service. The seminar offered participants a unique opportunity to engage with practitioners and visit institutions that shape u.s. foreign policy. The project concluded successfully in june 2024.
Dg/gtm - hr processing: the objective of this program is to improve processing of human resources activities (hiring, appointing, pay-setting, performance evaluation) for family members of foreign service personnel employed at posts overseas and in the department of state, to ensure consistency and reduce errors. The bureau of global talent management, tasked with undertaking a comprehensive study and implementing improvements, has appointed a project manager, hired a research assistant, identified best practices, and begun working with hr officers throughout the department to implement changes. Target date for completion is spring 2025.
