Program areas at Trust for African Rock Arts
Educational safaris, such as this one to niger, are part of taras Rock art awareness, knowledge dissemination and survey activities. In partnership with local niger counterpart, tara travelled with a group of visitors to review Rock art sites in the air mountains. Such trips provide tara with the opportunity to educate, monitor sites and survey new sites.
The c&t project: tara and the national museums of kenya partnered with a uk based non-profit foundation, computers and theater, to explore the concept of using drama and technology to create learning resources for schoolchildren. This initial exploratory stage involved visiting Rock art sites in northern kenya to assess their appropriateness as sites of learning for children, and to explore the viability of using drone footage to create virtual Rock art learning experiences for those who ordinarily do not have the resources to visit Rock art sites.
The us ambassadors fund for cultural preservation provided funding for tara to partner with local heritage professionals, community members and a digital recording foundation, factum, to document ancient Rock monoliths in the cross river region of nigeria. The results were publicized in literature, exhibitions and in educational venues both locally and outside nigeria.
