Program areas at The Young Men's Christian Association of the Triangle Area
Youth programs: The ymca of The Triangle Area provides quality child care programs. These programs emphasize building self-esteem through The development of spirit, mind, and body. Christian values are modeled by staff, and children participate in a variety of activities, including aquatics, sports, and crafts. Activities are designed to teach caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, self-confidence, and appreciation of nature and god's bounty. This year 12,671 children participated in before school, after school, and track out programs. Financial assistance was provided to 1,055 participants in these programs. This year 6,268 children participated in regular ymca full and half day summer camps with financial assistance provided to 643 participants. This year there were 7,905 participants in various youth sports programs. Teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperation, and respect for others are primary goals of The programs. Improved physical fitness and The development of individual skills are other significant goals. There were 696 swim team participants this year. In specialized day camps, 667 youth were served, and 1504 youth were served in tutorial programs. Y-guides and y-princesses is our signature program dedicated to build strong relationships between dads and their children. 7,252 youth participated in this program with their dads this year. Our youth and government is a state-wide nc program for teens that develops The understanding of legislature and government, culminating in a conference held each february. 1,086 youth participated this year.
Resident camp: camps sea gull and seafarer provide children ages 7 to 16 opportunities to develop specialized land and sea skills, independence, decision-making skills, and life-long friendships through a resident camping experience with children from many geographic areas, various economic means, and multiple religious affiliations. Character development is a principal objective of The programs, which include teaching The values of courage, consideration, cooperation, and integrity. Through daily devotions, sunday services, and staff example, campers learn The importance of strong values based in Christian principles. Ymca camp kanata serves children ages 6 to 15 through an organized overnight group camping experience in cabins. Emphasis is placed on development of friendships, social skills, group living skills, individual accomplishment and skill development during The week-long camp sessions. This year 428 participants attended various resident camp programs with financial assistance provided to 115 overnight campers.
Adult programs: The ymca of The Triangle Area is dedicated to building healthy spirit, mind, and body of individuals and families. Membership offers participants opportunities to do this through recreational and educational activities, which promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. Our wellness-based fitness programs help people set goals for their own personal fitness and promote health and improved self-esteem as members strive to achieve their goals. Program elements include nutrition, stress management, and health education. Activities include aerobics, aqua fitness, strength training, body shaping, and various sports. The y has 123,924 members including 12,427 individuals who receive financial assistance to enable them to be members of The y. The number of program volunteers who donated their time to further The y's mission was 2,185.
