Program areas at The Symphony Space

Literatureon our physical and virtual stages, Symphony Space presented a full slate of artistically and culturally diverse literary programs that feature classic and contemporary works by established and emerging authors. Our selected shorts literary series was conceived with a simple premise-great stories performed by great actors-and it has influenced generations of readers through live performances on stages in new york city and across The country. The selected shorts radio hour airs on 120 public radio stations, attracting 200,000 listeners each week; more than 55,000 people download The podcast every week.at The thalia book club, readers and writers revisited cherished classics and explored new and noteworthy works throughout events that featured wide-ranging author interviews, a vivid performance of an excerpt by an actor, and a lively q & a with The audience.
Arts educationsymphony Space's global arts program delivered creative and restorative educational experiences for 15,000 students across new york city, harnessing The power of The arts to explore The traditions and influences of african, asian, native american, and latin american cultures. We produced three newly curated shows, each livestreamed directly from our theater into schools - completely free-of-charge. From The bronx to brooklyn, across manhattan and queens, 29 schools participated, and our teaching artists brought rich cultural histories and art to life for thousands of children in schools and homes where they were learning and living. Our all write! Literacy program helps adult learners dramatically improve their reading and writing skills-along with their prospects for a more satisfying life. Symphony Space partners with The colleges, libraries, and community-based organizations to open a world of opportunities for adult learners and their families-completely free of charge. To accommodate health and safety needs, as well as The growing geographical reach of The program, we offered both in-person and virtual professional development workshops for literacy instructors, and our performances were available to in-person audiences and via livestream.
Rentalssymphony Space fosters community and artistic expression beyond our own programming, from mayoral debates to music performances, from school graduations to international dance competitions. By offering fully-equipped theaters, as well as box office, marketing, and house management services at rental rates lower than comparable venues, we provide an affordable home to community and performing arts organizations. In fy22, we supported 96 rental events by more than 80 visiting presenters, joyously welcoming back these artists, community groups, and their audiences after The nearly complete shut-down of our theaters in fy21.
Broadcasting, film, music, family programs, wall to wall and other programs.
