Program areas at the Rose Foundation for Communities the Environment
The Rose Foundation envisions a future where nature is protected, peoples rights are ensured, and environmental justice is advanced, and where these three values are deeply interconnected. To achieve our vision, we support community-based initiatives that help build a world in which individuals, organizations, and Communities are empowered to promote stewardship of nature, inspire people to take action, and hold government and corporations accountable. Roses grantmaking programs build bridges between community members expertise, commitment and energy, and a variety of funding sources including colleague foundations, court-ordered mitigation payments, governmental partners, and individual donors in order to help build a just and sustainable future for our children, and our childrens children.
New voices are rising works with san francisco east bay high school students from low-income Communities and Communities of color that suffer disproportionately from toxic pollution and related illness. The new voices program builds our students confidence, develops their leadership and analytical skills, teaches them activist skills, and trains them to lead their generations fight for environmental justice, climate protection and community resilience. Program components include a summer leadership academy, school term fellowships, internships with climate justice non-profits and businesses, and field trips to explore environmental careers and volunteer options.
The Rose Foundation focuses special attention towards building The grassroots base of The conservation and environmental justice movements, and has built a family of grassroots funds which help very small and emerging charities with seed funding and training. Most of our grassroots grantees are too small, too new and too remote to secure funding from larger foundations. But The grassroots activists supported by our grassroots funds are a big part of The people power needed to secure big wins for conservation, community equity and resilience, and social justice.
