Program areas at Pet Cottage
General program - in fiscal year 21/22 we served 62 pets and 67 people through the sanctuary residency program and the lifelong guardianship program. At the Pet Cottage we provide homestyle care for pets that lose their humans to death, disability, or deployment. Our signature promise means pets will always have the home, care and love they deserve for life. In the lifelong guardianship program, a Pet, typically a senior Pet (age 7+) is placed under the care of a guardian, typically a senior person in their home and followed for life. We cover all medical expenses and check in periodically with the guardian throughout the life of the Pet as our commitment to each Pet is to ensure it's health and well-being for it's entire life. We specifically seek pets who become homeless due to their owners death, disability, or deployment. Matching these pets with a guardian reduces the number of senior pets forced to transition(quite bewilderingly) from the comfort of years in a loving home to likely living our their remaining years in a shelter or being euthanized. By placing them under the guardianship of people, primarily seniors who need, desire, and benefit from their compansionship, the Pet lives the rest of his life in the manner the owner desires. This arrangement benefits the Pet, his owner, the guardian, the shelter and our communities! We are unique in that we make a promise to the Pet that he/she will have a home and a loving companion for life. We do so by following each Pet in our programs for their lifetime covering all veterinarian expenses. This innovative aspect of our program not only removes the obstacle of fear of a large medical expense therefore increasing the number of potential guardians, but also ensures that our promise to the Pet for his well being is kept. In the sanctuary program, the pets home is at the Pet Cottage. Pets who become sanctuary residents are those that would not be easily placed with a guardian in the community.
Amc - a donation was given to be used specifically at amc animal medical center for Pet care, medications and prescription food for animals enrolled in either of our programs - sanctuary residency program or lifetime guardianship program. The money was spent as requested.
