Program areas at The Nelac Institute
THE FORUM OF LABORATORY ACCREDITATION Each year, TNI sponsors two meetings where scientists, regulators and the general public gather to engage in dialogue about building a national program for the accreditation of environmental testing laboratories and related organizations. In 2022, the meetings included discussions on environmental justice, strategies for an aging workforce, and continued discussion on teh analysis of teh "forever chemicals" , polyfluorinate alkyl substances. Over 800 individuals participated in the 2022 meetings. For the seventeenth year, the summer meeting was combined with the National Environmental Monitoring Conference in cooperation wtih the US Environmental Protection Agency.
CONSENSUS STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT In 2022, TNI's consensus standards program began an efford to update language related to a Quality Management System to conform to the 2017 version of ISO/IEC 17025 , and international standard for the compentence of laboratories.
NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM TNI's National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program(NELAP) now has 14 states and 15 Accreditation Bodies(AB's) that accredit over 2000 laboratories in the US and internationally. In 2022,the major focus of NELAP was to return to in-person laboratory assessments as concerns over the pandemic lessoned.
