Justified anger - justified anger is an african american-led, community-driven initiative to reduce racial disparities in madison, Wisconsin. The goal is to create a movement that will unite leadership, vision, policy, and strategy to identify The gaps in services and areas of need and then plan and implement a long-term strategy to improve The lives of people of color in madison.
Fiscal sponsorship - provides support to local businesses by providing loans to fund startup costs. We also support The work of various Community organizations and coalitions in their missions by acting as a fiscal sponsor.
Reentry - our reentry work has four main components: emergency and transitional housing, job training and placement, mentoring, and advocacy. This year we operated four housing units serving over 100 men and continued to run two mentoring groups for ex-offenders with over 113 in attendance. We met with 8 employers, participated in no job fairs but referred men to different jobs throughout The Community, and met with 34 companies to solidify partnerships. In addition we offered one-on-one advocacy assistance to over 260 men. We continue to have solid relationships with The department of corrections and several other Community partners. We also have a staff member who provides research and public education workshops on issues related to racial disparities and incarceration.
Youth leadership - Nehemiah runs a number of programs that combine leadership Development techniques, drug and alcohol prevention, and stem learning into a culturally relevant experience focused on african american youth. Our k-12 programs work in The schools and in after school programs. Ace, brother, mid and light, cover children from kindergarten through high school.
Leadership and capacity Development - Nehemiah helps support and train indigenous leaders within The neighborhood to take further leadership and responsibility for their own Community. Various educational and informational programs are offered throughout The year. Our allied neighborhood Community chaplain program offers spiritual care in a variety of forms, such as assisting with funerals; visiting shut-ins; offering bible studies; and caring for and praying with individuals and families. We assist many residents with advocacy and help equip them for self-advocacy. We are able to assist families with obtaining adequate housing and fulfilling legal obligations. We support youth and teen attendance in school, helping students to complete required courses. We offer specialized programming for teen girls, focusing on issues such as esteem and character Development.
Economic Development - Nehemiah's Community and economic Development focus seeks to create healthy, equitable communities for all. We will work with mission-driven organizations to create opportunities for economic growth for individuals and The african american Community as a whole.
Family and Community wellness - Nehemiah's Community chaplain collaborates with churches and nonprofits serving The at-risk, under-resourced allied neighborhood. The chaplain provides advocacy for residents, serves as an intermediary with a wide range of social service providers, offers direct assistance with basic needs, and offers spiritual care.
