Program areas at The International Focusing Institute

Membership Certification Services The majority of our work has to do with assisting our members and teachers, including dealing with all aspects of certification and connecting members of the community with one another. In 2022, our membership increased to 2,140 individuals from 71 countries We have 225 Coordinators from 36 countries, who teach and offer certification through the Institute. This year, we implemented our Equity in Membership policy, which created lower prices for membership and certification for countries with the most struggling economies. We offered 14 Roundtables, which are conversations on a variety of topics, free for members, as well as a number of Cafecitos or Mesas Redondas, which are Spanish language online gatherings for members. We worked closely with the French Focusing Institute IFEF to support their international conference in France in June.
Gendlin Center Gendlin Legacy Pause for Peace The Gendlin Research Center added two distinguished scholars to its committee Prof. Siebrecht Vanhooren of KU Leuven University in Belgium, and Prof. Sigridur Thorgeirsdottir of the University of Iceland. It compiled doctoral dissertations related directly to Focusing or Gendlin, and created the Gendlin Grant in Philosophy to encourage young scholars to engage with Gendlins philosophy of the implicit. The team editing transcripts of dialogues which Gendlin had with Dave Young in the last years of his life continues their work. A subcommittee of the Gendlin Center is continuing its development of a simplified version of the Experiencing Scale EXP Scale to facilitate more research in Focusing. The Pause for Peace initiative continues to support the work of Focusing El Salvador.
Classes, Conferences, Products We once again gave over 20,000 in scholarship assistance to attendees of our conferences. Classes and conferences included the annual Weeklong, which this year was done as a hybrid event in two physical locations, Connecticut and Ireland, and online. We also held a Children Focusing conference as well as a new initiative, the Thinking at the Edge Academy. We offered 11 Focusing Highlights along with 7 other online courses and online summits in Spanish and Engish.
