Program areas at The Foundation of Firsthealth
The Foundation of Firsthealth, Inc. ("Foundation") provides philanthropic support to The operating entities and business lines of Firsthealth of The carolinas, Inc. ("Firsthealth"), a not-for-profit healthcare system. This fy 2022 philanthropic support included $5,983,389 in grants to Firsthealth for operational support of existing patient care facilities and services, physician and clinical staff education, and other approved operational needs. Significant fy 2022 disbursement from The Foundation to Firsthealth included, but were not limited to:- $3,000,000 paid toward The Foundation's financial pledge for The new comprehensive cancer center.- $431,039 paid by The Firsthealth hospice Foundation to cover ongoing annual operating losses of The Firsthealth hospice house (inpatient facility) and provide for The maintenance of The healing gardens at The hospice house. - $404,755 to cover The operating deficit of The clara mclean hospitality house ("clara's house") located on The Firsthealth moore regional hospital - pinehurst campus and to offset The cost of community programs held at The facility. - $120,000 paid in support of Firsthealth's outpatient palliative care program, to offset some of The ongoing patient care costs not paid through medicare and most commercial insurance companies. - $389,504 paid in support of The Firsthealth physician's leadership academy program and The office of provider wellbeing. - $199,967 disbursed from The cancer care fund to assist patients with different types of cancer with The cost of medication co-pays, gas money, arranging special transportation needs, special nutritional needs, etc. - $632,212 paid to Firsthealth moore regional hospital in support of numerous nursing education programs, nursing enrichment programs, nursing scholarships, external professional conferences, etc. And for ongoing magnet training. - $265,430 to provide underinsured children with quality dental care and outside professional dental services for needed dental surgeries; - $185,525 paid in support of The Firsthealth home care's complex care management program.- $72,315 disbursed by The Firsthealth richmond memorial hospital Foundation in support of health services provided to The residents of richmond county. - $69,606 disbursed by The Firsthealth montgomery memorial hospital Foundation in support of health services provided to The residents of montgomery county.during fy2022, clara's house hosted 622 guests who stayed a total of 1,316 room nights (a 60% increase over The previous fiscal year). 487 of those guests were first time visitors. Guests traveled a mean distance of 71 miles to clara's house with an average length of stay of 2.2 nights. Due to The emergence out of The pandemic, clara's house remained at a limited capacity of 6 rooms a night until april 2022, when availability was increased to 10 rooms a night. Top diagnostic groups included oncology, heart and orthopedic patients with The top three counties being served from robeson, cumberland and richmond.until The new comprehensive cancer center was built and during The timeframe support people were not allowed in chemotherapy with their patients, clara's house provided day respite for nearly 300 visits to The facility, truly focusing in on Firsthealth's efforts to care for The "whole person" which includes those valuable caregivers. Whether it was a nap, a place to remotely work, or to share a hot meal on "souper mondays" cooked with love by volunteers, clara's house staff worked with The oncology staff and nurse navigators to keep The patient's caregivers from sitting in their cars during patient treatment and provided hospitality during an intense time of need.due to The generous philanthropic support of The community through The Foundation of Firsthealth, clara's house offered 481 nights to cancer patients at no charge, equating to approximately $41,000. Beyond housing, transportation and meal assistance, oncology patients could also choose from a variety of support programs at clara's house to include art therapy, yoga, music therapy and a monthly support group.additional community support groups also resumed, to include parkinson's, dementia, centering prayer and book club. The healing gardens behind clara's house bloomed under The weekly care of volunteers, providing a haven of peace and hope for many staff and visitors who need a moment to re-center.
