Program areas at The Congressional Institute
Congress of tomorrow house retreat: sponsored since The Institute's founding in 1987. This issue and planning program is attended by members of The house of representatives and senior staff.
Staff retreats: Congressional staff gather to learn, communicate, and network on The challenges and rewards of managing Congressional offices and best practices in legislative management and communications.
Leadership retreats: The Congressional Institute sponsors annual retreats for The elected leadership of The u.s. house of representatives. At this meeting, Congressional leaders have an opportunity away from Washington to discuss in depth and expand their knowledge of The critical issues facing congress and The nation.
Congressional art competition: provides an opportunity for members of congress to encourage and recognize The artistic talents of their young constituents. The Institute sponsors The art competition and reception honoring a student from each Congressional district whose artwork was selected and displayed in The u.s. capitol.
Democracy fund grant: The project provides educational information about congress to The general public and informs members of congress and staff about efforts to improve The function and management of The institution.
Research issues: The Congressional Institute conducts important research projects consistent with its mission.
Amtrak: in 2018, The Congressional Institute chartered a train to transport members of congress from Washington d.c. to greenbrier, west Virginia. On january 31, 2018, The chartered train was involved in an accident. Settled in december 2022, with amtrak granting The Congressional Institute a complete release from further liability.
