Program areas at The Artist Boat
Eco-Art Workshops & Adventures: Classroom and Field-Based Environmental Education Programs integrating arts & science. Eco-Art Workshops served 3,113 students in their classrooms; Eco-Art Adventures served 2,336 students in their class groups via kayak; Adventures for private groups and the general public served 607 participants via kayak; Outreach events served 1,893 community members; The Bucket Brigade provided 1,061 participants of all ages beach eco tours; Habitat Restoration Adventures provided 392 students in their class groups with prairie experiences; and Professional Development provided training for 13 teachers in the field and via curriculum
Eco-Art Residencies: In-School, After-school, and summer environmental education programs, primarily implemented on school campuses integrating arts and science. Residencies and campus directly served 2,545 students and indirectly served many more through public art installations and curriculum development.
Coastal Heritage Preserve is a 764-acre conserved area of undeveloped land on the West End of Galveston Island comprised of estuarine and palustrine wetlands, tidal flats, and coastal upland prairie habitat. The preserve acts as a platform of learning for Artist Boats integrated art and science educational programs. The Preserve served a total of 311 volunteers and a total of 3,254 participants. Artist Boat headquarters is on the land. Since 2013 Artist Boat has completed 14 land acquisition transactions to protect and preserve this land totaling over $17.7 million in federal, state, foundation, and individual donations for conservation. In the FY 2021 68 acres was conserved with over $1.3 million from federal, state, foundation, and individual donations. The land is permanently protected with deed language that protects it in perpetuity.
