Program areas at Terrain Programs
From Here - since moving to our larger location in 2019 our retail program has continued to grow now representing 120 participating artists. Our full-time manager has helped us to meet our goals for the shop and use the shop to further support artists. The shop has continued our ability to amplify local artists in our community and expose their work to a broader audience. In 2023, the shop continued to exceed our goals for sales putting more money back into artists pockets.
Additional Programs - We completed and unveiled our community mural This is East Central. This is East Central is a culmination of 4+ years of work, and consists of a 130 ft mural installed at the Carl Maxey Center, and an accompanying website (storiesofeastcentral.com) debuting in Q1 of 2024. 191 East Central residents are featured in the mural - 65 children, 126 adults - and 20 different individual?s stories will launch the site. We continued our new program, Terrain Talks, an informal (and FREE!) lecture series catered to artists who want to learn business tips from local professionals. We had a total of 66 artists attend our 3 Terrain Talks covering topics such as How to Run a Successful Market Booth and Business Ownership as a QTBIPOC Ent. Bazaar and BrrrZAAR, our one-day art markets, featured 212 arts-based businesses, $424,026.00 accrued in sales, and saw thousands of Spokanites eager to build relationships with local artists. Terrain 14 was even bigger than the year before with 397 artists showcased and continuing in the same great location as 2022, Jensen-Byrd (empty building in Downtown Spokane) into a three level, multimedia art and music experience. And perhaps most importantly, into a space that allows us to envision a Spokane that celebrates and amplifies all voices, and that understands the essential role art brings to our lives.
Terrain Gallery - In 2023 we continued operating our Terrain Gallery in its location on north Monroe St. We have continued to host monthly gallery shows. We?ve worked hard to increase the diversity of artists we serve, our 2023 shows featured 31 local and traveling artists, seven of which identify as BIPOC/LGBTQ2SIA+, and 10 of which identify as womxn. In addition we opened The Annex within the Terrain Gallery that now acts as a retail wing of the Terrain Gallery. Showcasing a wide variety of work from 30-ish local artists. The Annex gives the community the opportunity to buy artwork directory off the wall.
