Here There Are Blueberries Written by Founding Artistic Director Moiss Kaufman and company member Amanda Gronich. Winner of Theater J's Trish Vradenburg Jewish Play Prize, the world premiere of "Here There Are Blueberries" was co-produced by Tectonic Theater Project and California's La Jolla Playhouse where the Los Angeles Times named it the "Best of Theater 2022," referring to it as "an impeccable production with symphonic subtlety." The San Diego Union Tribune called the production a "chilling world-premiere - engrossing, unsettling, and deeply moving" while BroadwayWorld exclaimed "Here There Are Blueberries should be staged in every major city in America." The production ran July 26 - August 21, 2022 at the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. In 2023 "Here There Are Blueberries" had an incredible run May 7-28, 2023, at Shakespeare Theatre Company's Harman Hall in Washington, DC. Following the exciting production at Shakespeare Theatre Company, we look forward to the upcoming run off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop, slated for April 17-June 2, 2024. Additionally, Here There Are Blueberries has created around it a robust audience engagement plan thanks to our partnership with Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE). Las Aventuras de Juan Planchard By Moiss Kaufman. An option on the material was secured through Creative Artists Agency and translations of the book by Jonathan Jakubowitz (which was written) in Spanish was commissioned by Tectonic for production. A workshop was cast and held for developmental work in 2022, with a full, twice-extended production at Miami New Drama October 17-December 3, 2023. Call My Name, Clemson A new play by Dr. Rhondda Thomas. Began development with Clemson University and Tectonic artists, and will receive a staged adaptation in January 2023. The play is being created using techniques of Tectonic's theatrical devising method: Moment Work. This developmental adaptation comes after workshops onsite with Moment Work Institute artists throughout 2022, and we look forward to further development in 2023. A Christmas Memory This verbatim adaptation of Truman Capote's short story, was produced in collaboration with The Whale Theatre as an intimate holiday show at The Park Theater in Hudson, NY. In November 2023, the production saw a second year onstage at The Park Theater, starring Peter Frechette and Marceline Hugot. Untitled Sasha Velour Project By Sasha Velour and Moiss Kaufman. Groundwork began for this exciting partnership in 2022 that further developed in 2023 with a robust workshop in Hudson, NY in August. Sasha Velour, superstar drag queen, will join Tectonic for workshops and further development/production in 2024 at La Jolla Playhouse. 2023 Moment Work Institute - Education and Community Engagement Activities 2023 Residencies and Trainings Tectonic Theater Project conducted residencies and workshops in our devising technique, Moment Work. Under newly appointed Moment Work Institute Chair Leigh Fondakowski's oversight, these took place in colleges, universities and high schools, and in rehearsal rooms for New York professionals. They varied in length from 90 minutes to a full semester, and were taught by our Company of Teaching Artists. In 2023, Moment Work Institute was proud to hold workshops at Clemson University as part of the development of "Call My Name, Clemson", University of Arkansas, University of Wyoming, and Drew University, among many others. Our Summer Institute during June and July was the most successful version yet, and we look forward to hosting another robust course offering in 2024.
