Program areas at TESOL
Strategic Events: During the calendar year 2022, TESOL hosted its TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo, bringing together nearly 2,000 ELT professionals from across the globe to exchange their knowledge, best practices, and research in person (Pittsburgh, PA) and online. The in-person convention featured four keynotes, over 600 educational sessions, and several special events. Proposals are peer-reviewed. TESOL also had its second annual virtual conference: ELevate. Professional Learning: TESOL provides year-round continuing education programs to TESOL members and other professionals throughout the world to develop leadership skills, improve core competencies, and stay abreast of the latest developments in the dynamic field of English language teaching and learning. Self-paced and facilitated courses are available. Popular courses include the Fundamentals of TESOL, Schoolwide English Learning (SWEL), Separating Difference from Disability, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Supporting English Learners with Exceptional Needs, and the TESOL Core Certificate Training Program (TCCP).
Marketing and Membership Services: For more than 55 years, TESOL has been providing community to educators, researchers, administrators, and students in the ELT field. With more than 13,000 members representing over 170 countries, and more than 100 worldwide affiliates, TESOL offers members the opportunity to be part of a dynamic professional community and join in TESOL's mission to advance excellence in English language teaching. Job opportunities span all career levels and include positions in education, with nonprofits, in government, and more.
Publications:TESOL produces and disseminates serial publications, books, blogs, journals, and newsletters that are designed to advance the expertise of English language teaching professionals. TESOL Press offers over 100 titles.TESOL Quarterly (TQ), a refereed professional journal, fosters inquiry into English language teaching and learning by providing a forum for TESOL professionals to share their research findings and explore ideas and relationships in the field.TESOL Journal (TJ) is a refereed, practitioner-oriented electronic journal based on current theory and research in the field of TESOL. Articles enable an active and vibrant professional dialogue about research- and theory-based practices as well as practice-oriented theorizing and research. TESOL Connections publishes useful, practical articles for classroom teachers, resources for English language educators, and news about the association.The English Language Bulletin (ELB) is a weekly update of news from all over the world relevant to English language teaching professionals and their students.The TESOL Blog is the official blog of TESOL International Association. Written by TESOL professionals and association leaders, the blog provides readers with news, information, and updates on the latest research, effective classroom practices, and peer-to-peer advice on classroom technology, lesson plans, and other practical topics in the field of English language education.Interest section (IS) e-newsletters inform TESOL members of important issues, trends, and news in the ESOL field. Articles promote the mission of the interest section or caucus, and support an exchange of ideas, experiences, and teaching practices among ELT professionals within a targeted member community.
Advocacy, Standards & Professional Relations: TESOL aims to deepen respect for the TESOL profession, its practitioners, and the profession's student constituency. TESOL's advocacy program addresses issues that affect the profession worldwide and offers English language educators the opportunity to get involved. TESOL works to advance English language teaching worldwide, including the creation of teaching and learning standards and best practices initiatives for the English language teaching profession, including standards for teachers, teacher preparation programs, and students.
Technology Overhaul:As part of its ongoing commitment to provide members with relevant content and user-friendly channels accessible to many, TESOL has made a significant investment in its technology infrastructure. The initiative was undertaken in 2021 and will span over a period of 4 years.
