Performances:streb engages audiences with the work of founder and artistic director elizabeth Streb via performances by the Streb extreme action company. In fy22, Streb's returned to live performances, reaching over 20,000 audience members, while continuing to share the thrill of extreme action more widely to the global online community. Highlights this year included:the company premiered a brand new, evening-length show, time machine: from ringside to extreme action, at the jacob's pillow dance festival in august 2021. The retrospective show traces elizabeth Streb's artistic journey from early experimentations to the wild, extreme work for which the company has since become known. Jacob's pillow's sophisticated video production-utilizing drone footage and editing to punctuate rhythms, and shift perspectives to capture the essence of the performance-allowed Streb to share the work with online audiences. The company additionally took this new show on the road and performed time machine to live audiences in seattle, wa (jan 2022) and pittsburgh, pa (june 2022).streb offered public performances and educational programs to open brookfield properties' manhattan west plaza in september 2021. Commissioned by brookfield arts to occupy, activate and engage the public, Streb presented kaleidoscope, a new work centered around the impressive, 20 foot tall machine originally fabricated to prepare the company for occupying the london eye. The company additionally performed us public premieres of two more large scale action machine events, molinette and plateshift as well as a classic solo, add, reimagined as a trio. The performances and accompanying educational programs took over the outdoor space and were free and open to the public.city center ny's fall for dance festival. Streb extreme action opened the popular festival with a selection of show stopping repertory in october 2021.slam shows, at the company's home venue in williamsburg, brooklyn returned in may 2022 and featured Streb extreme action's 8-dancer company performing elizabeth Streb's signature choreography, including new works, repertory favorites, and works-in-progress over 3 weekends.educational programming @ slam:streb's popaction school and espaa-streb trapeze academy classes enable youth and adults to engagewith the sheer physicality of elizabeth Streb's unique, signature style of action and movement. Classesintertwine dance, athletics, boxing, rodeo, hollywood-style stunt work, trapeze, acrobatics and circusarts. Students are encouraged to explore self-expression, creativity, self-discipline and resilience. In fy22,streb's educational programming returned to in-person classes in fall 2021. While enrollment did notreach pre-pandemic levels, all programs were delivered safely throughout the year. Highlights include:streb's popaction school and espaa-streb trapeze academy classes at slam:beginning fall 2021, Streb offered 20 kid classes and 6 adult classes, engaging approximately225 registrants per week.teen and tween action clubs feature monthly skill building and social networking events foryouth ages 10-17. Each month approximately 25 youth joined these clubs to engage with peers,and meet new physical, artistic, and social challenges by participating in activities includingpopaction, trampoline, flying trapeze, other circus arts and guest performances.streb kid company offered a group of 12 advanced students aged 12-16 choreographic andperformance opportunities plus extensive interaction with Streb teaching artists and companymembers.community engagement & access:streb partners with a range of school and community organizations to reach a diverse constituency,including local youth and families, immigrants, and individuals with disabilities. Highlights from this yearincluded:school residencies: Streb works with k-12 schools over the academic year to offer classesand opportunities to watch and engage with the company. School partners this year includedpoly prep academy, trevor day school, success academy, williamsburg and more.community partnerships: Streb partners with community organizations to bring personalbest popaction classes to individuals from underserved communities in nyc. Communitypartners this year included big brothers big sisters, opportunity network, john jay college ofcriminal justice, arts connection, and brookfield arts.rental programslam, the organization's converted williamsburg warehouse, with 24' ceilings, 22' automated trussesand a brightly colored, column free 50'x50' footprint, is a unique space which embraces and incubates avibrant community of artists working at the intersection of dance, extreme action, aerial arts and circus.as such, Streb's rental program provides space to a diverse community of local artists to work, create,teach, rehearse, document, film, and perform a range of works. Streb offers subsidized rental rates forworking artists who benefit from our unique space and philosophy and hosts curated "friday nights atslam" for these artists to perform in our venue for a live audience. Through this initiative, we aim toembody our commitment to work that is guided by Streb's principles of artistic experimentation,inclusiveness, open access, audience sovereignty and community engagement. This year friday nightsreturned in december 2021, with additional performances in march, april and june, allowing 77 artiststo perform and share their work with the community.slam's rental program also engages the local community as a popular destination to celebrate a specialevent, with organized activities led by the action heroes of Streb. From birthday parties and weddingsto baby showers and other life event celebrations, these special events introduce new families to theorganization, who often return as future audience members or students.
