Program areas at Stewart's Caring Place and Subsidiary

Stewart's Caring Place provides a relaxed and Caring environment for those individuals and families on their cancer journey. Our services are free of charge to more than 1,800 families a year. The primary service area encompasses, but is not limited to summit, stark, portage, wayne, and medina counties. We work with participants of all ages, races, socioeconomic statuses and backgrounds. Our programs include educational support, health and wellness, financial help, relaxation, wigs and beauty, and children's programming. Stewarts Caring Place strives to be an exemplary resource for needed cancer support services, while being a sustainable community based organization. (continued on schedule o)our support services include: - resource library: our on-site resource coordinator helps families gather information in our comprehensive resource library. Our library includes more than 3,000 resources which include books, pamplets, and booklets from national and locally-based health organizations.- lectures and workshops: we offer a variety of professional lectures and workshops that are open to individuals touched by cancer. Topics include: post-surgery considerations for all cancer patients, managing cancer-related fatigure, and managing finances. - professional services: one-on-one professional consulations are available for the following: adult counseling, wills, trusts and estate planning, social security and disability, nutrition, and gentle excercise and movement. - support groups: we have a wide array of support groups that meet regularly that include diagnosis-specific groups, general cancer support groups, a caregiver support group, breast and lung cancer support groups, groups based on spirituality and more. - children and family programs: our children's program specialist provides individual and family consults to children, teenagers, and parents/caregivers who have been touched by cancer, and coordinates therapeutic programs specifically designed to help children cope through a cancer journey. We also offer summer camp programs for children ages 4-12.stewart's offers a variety of healing arts and wellness programs designed to help patients and caregivers reduce stress, keep active, feel well and learn how to maintain proper nutrition during treatment and recovery. Our healing arts and wellness programs include:- healing arts: we offer massotherapy, reiki, foot reflexology, tuning fork therapy, healing touch therapy, energy healing, tapping, aroma therapy facials, and poetry writing and bookclub.- movement classes: movement classes help reduce stress, increase flexility and balance. Stewart's offers tai chi, yoga, a walking club, and a gentle strength building class. - wigs, spa, & style: our programs are designed to pamper cancer patients, help them learn techniques to apply makeup, and provide wigs/head accessories to help them have a positive self-image.- wig room: participants can browse our extensive collection of professionally cleaned and styled wigs, as well as our assorment of head accessories, such as wraps, turbans, and hats. Participants are permitted to take what they'd like free of charge. - cooking and nutrition: we offer a variety of cooking and demonstration seminars to help families navigate the dietary needs and changes that happen due to a cancer diagnosis.- health and wellness: we offer nutrition consults and spiritual care sessions.- Stewart's grocery store - food shares (20 meals) are offered upon request to provide food security for participant families.- financial assistance - economic insecurity support can be provided in the form of gas and grocery cards.
