Direct services: the organization provides support services for victims of sexual trauma, such as: immediate crisis intervention, advocacy and medical accompaniment, individual crisis counseling and support groups, and information and referral services. Star responded to 256 calls with the anchorage sexual assault response team. Legal advocacy: the organization provides victims of sexual trauma with information about their legal rights and personal support. The organization provides victims accompaniment to meetings with law enforcement, prosecution and criminal court proceedings. The organization can help victims access civil legal assistance through referrals to networks of pro bono attorneys. Star's advocates provided 526 individuals with 3,460 individual advocacy services in the year. Trauma therapy: the organization employed trauma therapists to provide cognitive behavioral therapy, emdr (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and brainspotting to help survivors cope and thrive after experiencing sexual trauma. Star provided 781 free trauma therapy sessions to 61 individuals during the year. Statewide sexual assault crisis line: the organization operates the 24-hour statewide sexual assault crisis line. Star provided crisis intervention and support to 6,341 callers during the year. Volunteer coordination: the organization benefits from dedicated community service members who volunteer for the agency in a variety of capacities. The organization's board of directors is a volunteer board. Volunteers help with fundraising and events. Thirty community members have completed background checks and an intensive 40+ hour training to work as crisis line responders.
Prevention/education: provide evidence-based prevention presentations and workshops, tailored to diverse audiences, including school students and staff, service organizations, first responders, unions, corporations and church groups. Youth prevention presentations are age and development appropriate and available for k-12th grades. Prevention programming includes child abuse prevention (darkness to light, the great body shop, no-go-tell), bystander intervention (green dot), implicit bias and sexual harassment prevention. Star provided 204 presentations to 3,791 youth and 37 presentations to 1,083 adults on various topics during the year.
