Program areas at St. Francis House
Homeless day shelter - st Francis House is the largest provider of day services to the homeless in greater boston. In fiscal year 2022, more than 7,000 (7,129) homeless men and women, an average of 403 per day received basic services to include: 194,277 meals served annually averaging 212 guests per day; 13,998 clothing appointments annually; 4,063 clinical support and case management contacts annually; partnered with boston healthcare for the homeless to provide medical care to 844 patients in the onsite clinic.
Workforce development - the moving ahead program (map) is a unique, holistic, vocational rehabilitation program that prepares poor and homeless adults to find and maintain employment. Map supports students to identify and address personal and professional barriers to self-sufficiency and provides the necessary tools and opportunities to secure meaningful, lasting employment. During the year, 109 individuals participated in this program.
Housing (residential service and housing & stabilization) - the next step housing program is a supportive leased-housing community providing 56 permanent housing units for adults with a history of homelessness. Professional case managers provide individual support, foster sobriety, and aid the development of life skills required for community reintegration and independence.
Recovery support center - the recovery support center is dedicated to helping guests strengthen their sobriety by providing community, activities, meals and support. The center runs on a peer participatory model; operated by and for people in recovery. The center is about people helping each other strengthen their recovery while also working to create a shared vision of what a vibrant recovery community can look like. During the year, 673 individuals were involved in this program.
The willows at wood - st. Francis House opened and operated a 24-bed low-threshold, harm-reduction shelter for women at an offsite location during fiscal year 2022 (12/27/2021-6/30/22). During that time, the willows shelter provided 24 hour access to shelter, meals, harm-reduction services, and case management. They also ensured that housing navigation was onsite, and made referrals to services needed, such as medical, behavioral health, or income maximization and benefits. A total of 62 women were served.
