See schedule o for a complete description.januarythe Spruill education Center unveils the inside the classroom exhibit in the education Center hallway gallery. the first quarter work features instructors chad creasy (oil), julie mazzoni (mosaics), and john horne (drawing and portraiture) and their students. the Spruill gallery exhibits 150 year a retrospective look at the work of four long-time Spruill artist instructors, who have cumulatively taught at Spruill for more than 150 years. Artists include carol brull, chery baird, vicki paullette, and ann clancy.we increase our focus on community programming with expanding the number and times our creative connections Arts for alzheimer's is offered, both at the sprull education Center and in partnership with adult day of dunwoody. We also begin our digital Arts programs with the purchase of 12 ipads that are utilized for youth focused programs such as storyboarding and procreate.februaryall registration software and student facing enrollment is moved to the cloud to provide for better ease of use and faster service for students. A partnership is formed with dekalb county library to provide programming to accompany family story time activities targeted to children ages 3-5. After reading, children and families engage in the creation of artwork reflective of the story that has been read. Visiting artist tony clennell, from canada, shares techniques and inspiration with advanced ceramics students. Marchkathy walton's seven steel butterflies are installed on the front faade of our education Center, bringing a bright, three-dimensional sculpture to our public art offerings. Spruill artist instructors hold a quarterly meeting and roundtable discussion that is attended by 40 working artist instructors.spruill's annual fundraiser, artistic affair, is held offsite due to pending construction and raises more than $80,000 toward the outreach and programming efforts of Spruill throughout the year. 365 guests joined us for the evening to participate in our live and silent auctions, raffle battles, and "best dressed" competition. Another 525 individual bidders registered to be a part of the evening by bidding on items from home.incoming Spruill gallery director curates the pink pop up which features five atlanta based contemporary artists and their personal interpretation of the fierce and fun, rebellious and optimistic color pink.in the first quarter of classes, a total of 1,797 students (a 15% increase year-over-year, and a 9% increase over pre-pandemic levels) participate in 197 different class and workshop offerings.aprilalong with community partners and city of dunwoody officials, we break ground on our long-awaited facility expansion that will add 8,300 square feet and include seven new studio spaces and a community room to our education Center. the inside the classroom hallway exhibit series continues with the abstract, collage, and mixed media paintings of chery baird and her students. In total, more than 60 pieces of art are displayed.our program offerings grow with the introduction of a new street art class the first of its kind - that explores the art form and includes tours, lectures, field trips, and student participation in the creation of a work of art. for the second year in a row, Spruill is voted the "best nonprofit" in the best of perimeter awards.as one of four legacy Arts centers, Spruill receives $75,000 in funding from dekalb county for community support of yearly programming.our outreach efforts include providing crafts and information at local area favorite lemonade days and at the dunwoody high school art gala in celebration of the school's 50th anniversary. May15th annual pottery and art sale saw 32 participating artists and more than 600 works available for visitors generating artists' income of more than $4,000.shannon morris begins her tenure as the Spruill gallery director. the biennial juried student & faculty show, juried by kevin sipp records 61 artists submissions, with 57 selected for exhibitions and 64 total works. Total prize money of $4,000 is awarded as part of the show. Spruill provides further community outreach at the dunwoody Arts festival in working with young attendees in creating mother's day cards.junespruill expands its program offerings with a series of fun friday workshops begin with 15 summer offerings in mediums ranging from painting to jewelry, glass to mosaics. A partnership with dunwoody village restaurants allows students to receive a discount on food and beverage purchases before or after class. Summer camps begin with a total summer enrollment of 1,029 campers in 34 different youth and teen camp programs.during the second quarter of programming, we achieved a total enrollment of 1,495 students across 180 class offerings. This represents an increase of 16.7% percent in year over year enrollment and 16.6% compared to pre-pandemic numbers.july two dozen hearty volunteers participate in a wet 4th of july parade through the streets of dunwoody.the Spruill gallery opens in light with in kyoung chun and steven l. anderson - an immersion into the ethereal beauty of nature, skillfully interpreted by these contemporary visionaries.augustspruill summer camps conclude. During the summer, Spruill awards 96 scholarships in our creative Arts camps for ages 5-10 and another 56 scholarships are provided for programming before and after camps to allow working parents the ability to be at work outside of regular camp hours. In our advanced teen studios, 22 camp scholarships were awarded for campers ages 11-14. All told, a total of $35,306 in summer camp funding was provided to support those in need in our community.spruill received a prestigious bridge grant from the Georgia council of the Arts to support our operations and community outreach efforts. With input from a variety of stakeholders including staff, artists, students, instructors, the city of dunwoody, art institutions, corporate supporters, donors, and the board of directors, Spruill embarks on developing a revised strategic plan to provide a roadmap for impact for the coming three years. Septemberwe celebrate a traditional "topping out" ceremony in our expansion project, signifying the closing in of the building and the completion of framing and structural work. Spruill gallery opens facing y'all an exhibition that presents 29 works by 18 artists from the renowned photography collection of the do-good fund. Spruill gallery will also serve as a cultural partner to atlanta art week (aaw) by hosting a moderator led discussion, let's talk, with a panel of the featured photographers from the exhibition. Nationally recognized potter and educator kathy skaggs serves as a ceramic visiting artist and hosts a workshop entitled "printmaking on clay." During the third quarter of classes, Spruill serves a total of 1217 students in 167 class offerings. This is an increase of 8.6% year over year and 13% over pre-pandemic levels.octoberspruill partners with create dunwoody to host diwali in dunwoody with a rangoli and diya making workshop.the 21st annual ceramics bowl sale (free beans with every bowl!) Raises more than $6,000 for the department over three days and guests are treated to a sampling of 10 chilies from Spruill staff, students, and instructors. the winner of the fourth amplify public art installation is unveiled during the spirits for Spruill celebration. This year's winning entry, big hug, from muralist charity hamidullah will reside on the historic smoke house building for the next year after being selected by a diverse panel from nationwide submissions. Spruill continues to support independent artist instructors with a business development program that provides one-on-one mentoring, skill building and support. Novemberspruill opens the free community art closet as part of our outreach efforts to make the Arts available to everyone. Supplies including paints, canvases, paper, sketchbooks and more are made available to community members to help with their mental and general well-being.in service to community, Spruill serves as the craft provider for the traditional light up dunwoody event in downtown dunwoody. In addition to craft and other activities for young event goes, Spruill also helps to create and collect holiday cards for seniors. the fourth and final inside the classroom exhibit features works of ceramic instructors, vicki paulet and regina wolff, painting instructors margaret dyer and mary kirsch, and photography instructor ann clancy, as well as the work of their students.
