Training and competition - the services provided by Special Olympics New Mexico (sonm) is that of offering 3700 children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to train and compete year-round in 12 sports at the area and state level. Due to covid 19, Special Olympics was only able to offer two face-to-face competitions, as well as virtual programming including fitness challenges, social engagement activities, and wellness programs. 1,699 Special Olympics athletes participated, as well as 93 certified coaches. Sonm was able to offer unified sports opportunities in the schools to over 600 students throughout New Mexico.
