Program areas at Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy
Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy provided transformative equine-assisted services to 259 individuals with disabilities and hardships in 2024 and 337 total participants when including our outreach through pony pals. From ages 3 to 98, our participants represented 28 unique diagnoses and a diverse community that was 47% female, 53% male, and 4% asian, 7% hispanic, 27% african american, and 62% caucasian. We delivered 2,514 lessons totaling 2,190 instructional hours across eight impactful programs including adaptive horseback riding, making strides recreation Therapy, Equine services for heroes, occupational Therapy with hippotherapy, silver stirrups, unbridled horsemanship, the horsepower work-based learning program, and pony pals. With 30 scholarships awarded in 2024, Southern Reins has provided a total of 327 full and partial scholarships since our inception. Our veteran program supported 18 veterans this year, bringing the total served to 119. We partnered with 11 organizations including youth villages, tigerlife, memphis va, and local schools to expand our reach. A dedicated team of 209 active volunteers, including 86 new volunteers in 2024, completed 2,108 shifts and contributed 10,061 hours of service valued at $336,943. Since inception, volunteers have given 65,990 hours of time, valued at $2,210,005. Through 2024, Southern Reins had served 1,139 unique individuals through onsite programs and a total of 1,627 including community outreach, supported by our exceptional herd of 12 Therapy horses.
