Program areas at Southern Coalition for Social Justice

Southern Coalition for Social Justice's voting rights work protects the rights of communities of color by defending the voting rights act through fair redistricting and minimizing elections administration practices that threaten free democratic participation in elections such as photo id requirements, restrictions on voter registration and early voting and election day voter challenges. Through its Justice system reform initiative, the Southern Coalition for Social Justice works to end the school to prison pipeline, ensure police accountability, end racial profiling and mass incarceration, eliminate the unfair collateral consequences of involvement with the criminal legal system, and challenge systemic racial discrimination and inequities at all stages of the system. In addition, the youth Justice project seeks to end the criminalization of youth based on skin color.
