Program areas at Southeast Volusia Historical Society

The Society collects and exhibits objects and documents related to the history of Southeast Volusia County, with particular emphasis on the settlement founded by Dr. Andrew Turnbull in 1768. The Society promotes interest in the local history and culture. The Museum of History in New Smyrna Beach is open Tuesday through Saturday and staffed by unpaid docent volunteers. Vistors are welcomed with no admission fees charged and special tours may be scheduled.
The Society's Research Hisorical Library is operated by volunteers to collect, examine, catalog, and store documents for the Museum. The Library has an extensive collection of local area documents, including newspapers, books, articles and photographs. The Library is a research library only and materials are not for circulation.
The Society includes an Archeaology Laboratory, which is operated by volunteers to collect, examine, catalog, and store artifacts for the Museum. Particular interest in preserving artifacts and documents related to Southeast Volusia County and the original 1768 settlement.
