Program areas at SERRC
Instructional support service this program includes special education related services (speech, physical and occupational therapy and school psychology), transition services, technology, adult and vocational education, career connections, driver's education, career & technical education and family literacy. Serrc is the largest provider of special education services in Alaska. During fy22, thousands of unique students were served in 23 districts. Transition camps were held in various districts in the state. Services were also provided at juvenille justice facilities. During fy22, 325 students were served in nineteen in-person transistion camps in various communities in Alaska. An additional 192 students were able to participate in virtual transition camps. Technology department provided services to 15 Alaska school districts and organizations to assist with implementation and maintenance of customized technology used to improve student achievement and school efficiences. Approximately 4,500 students were impacted by these services. Ak drive (driver's education) helps Southeast alaskans obtain driver's licenses through classroom, simulator instruction and behind-the-wheel training. During fy22 there were 24 students that completed the ak drive program.
Program improvement this program includes staff development (professional learning), assessment and evaluation, curriculum development, grant writing and research. During fy22 serrc provided professional learning services to districts/communities throughout the state. School staff were provided knowledge and skills necessary to enable students to succeed with a well-rounded education and to meet academic standards.
Serrc's facilities department offers a wide-array of services to assist districts with obtaining funding for and implementing capital improvement projects, computerized maintenance management and ahera asbestos reinspections to help keep their buildings safe and in compliance with state and federal regulations. In fy 22 35 districts, 113 communties and over 16,000 students benefited from serrc's facility program services. During fy22, serrc continued to provide business services to three school districts in the state. Serrcs federal program consortium submitted formula grants to the Alaska department of education, bureau of indian affairs and the office of indian education. Staff also assisted districts with pre-compliance monitoring to ensure compliant program implementation. 27 grants for 9 school districts were submitted totaling 3,098,467 and impacting 6,598 students. In fy22, serrc's e-rate department filed 86 funding requests for various school districts across the state. Those filings resulted in 36,297,096 being awarded to benefit school district staff and students.
