Program areas at SPFB
Food Distribution: SPFB distributed 11.9 million pounds of food during the fiscal year. Through its network of 146 agencies in 20 counties, food is distributed through on-site programs, pantry programs, and voucher programs. Throughout the network, 78,163 boxes of food were distributed to families, including 19,139 that were distributed through the mobile pantry program to our outlying communities. SPFB was in its fourth year of participating in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program and 35,044 commodity food boxes were distributed to seniors. Child Nutrition Programs: SPFB has both an after-school feeding program during the school year and a summer feeding program during the summer months. Hot nutritious meals and/or snacks are served at the sites and the children are provided mentoring and nutrition education. During the year, 90753 Kids Caf meals and 47232 summer meals were prepared. In addition, 6560 snack bags and 2400 holiday boxes were distributed to children in Lubbock and surrounding areas throughout the year. Social Services Programs: Food Stamps are provided to ensure that those who have long-term food insecurity are provided with the available resources for ongoing help. During the year, 1295 applications were successfully filed. SPFB also conducts nutrition education, and 13000 contacts were made during the year. The total number of meals provided through SNAP and Pounds distributed was 11.7 million.
