Solar Community Housing Association

SCHA provides low-income housing to people living in Davis, California, while furthering the principles of cooperation, encouraging mutual aid, and promoting environmentally conscious lifestyles. Between October 2021 and September 2022, SCHA provided housing to 125 low income members, 35% of whom were first generation college students. On average, our rents were 62% of the weighted average market rent for bed leases in 2021. We offered $5,249 in rent assistance to members in need and 19% of members had their rent reduced by SCHAs sliding scale. We further developed our Food Justice Initiative program, launched in 2021, to provide free local organic food for our members and hands-on learning opportunities for UC Davis interns and College Corps fellows. We resumed housing students for the UC Davis Research Experience for Undergraduates summer program.
