Program areas at Shining Stars Foundation
Family Services: We provide 35 single day events and overnight programs for children battling a life-threatening illness and their entire family (including parents and siblings) in 2019. Activities included sporting events, theater performances, concerts and outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, climbing, boating, fishing and more. This included one of our largest annual programs, the Grand County Family Adventure, which is a five-day family camp for 200+ participants.
Awareness and Education Services: We educated the public about the challenges faced by kids with cancer through regular booths and presentations at community events. We also engaged students as volunteers with the Foundation in a variety of projects and leadership roles, as well as provided educational workshops in schools. We reached 912 students and 2,246 community members in 2019.
Child Services: We hosted two week long adventure camps just for the child battling cancer or other life-threatening illness. Programs included (1)Aspen Winter Games, an adaptive ski/snowboard program for 250+ participants AND (2)Aspen Summer Adventure, a summer camp program with a variety of outdoor adventures and cultural experiences for 50+ participants. We provided a full team of doctors and nurses to care for each child at these overnight programs, making these life-changing services accessible to children no matter their illness or physical challenges.
