Program areas at Shenandoah National Park Association
2022 was a great year for snpa. The board of directors approved it's fy 22 budget with a proposal to donate $125,000 as direct support to Shenandoah National Park. In december, because of the record sales year, the board of directors approved an additional $125,000 to be donated to the Park to support interpretation and education.the association was able to support two resource education seminars during 2022. Basic night sky photography in Shenandoah National Park was held on august 26, and painting in the Park was held on november 1. A total of 24 participants registered and attended the seminars and gave great reviews on their evaluationssnpa provided support for the wildflower weekend including providing funding for the brochure that lists the events and providing prizes for the Park's wildflower art contest.snpa purchased 15,000 junior ranger booklets to be distributed to children visiting the Park. Snpa purchased a solar generator for the mobile visitor center and 2 mac computers for the interpretive/education division.the snpa board took a bold step and purchased a commercial building near luray, Virginia for use as the office/warehouse. The 3750 sq ft building has great storage facilities for the snpa warehouse of inventoryand most importantly, great internet. Snpa moved from the Park headquarters space to the new location in may. The new location is more efficient and was much needed with the increase in inventory on hand for sales.with the new building, snpa purchased 2 dome cameras for Park use. One was placed on the roof of the office/warehouse to have a "live" camera showing the mountain ridge from the Shenandoah valley. The 2nd camera was placed on top of the byrd visitor center for a "live" camera showing activity in the meadow. Snpa pays a monthly fee to a hosting site that provides full support for the cameras.
