Program areas at Sharing Our Roots
Central farm: sor manages 100-acres of farmland in se mn, Our programming includes land restoration work through conservation easements, supporting a cohort of beginning farmers with land access and infrastructure (e.g: irrigation, livestock fencing, barns, etc.)
Wildlife counts: sor monitors wildlife through a citizen science effort that engages students and volunteers at the central farm. Wildlife habitat is also restored through management of invasives and protected through conservation easements.
Community connectors: sor employs 2 pt and 2 ft staff to address community food insecurity. Together they coordinate 6 neighborhood gardens, supporting over 120 families producing vegetables for home consumption. The connectors also work with local partners (e.g. Foodshelves) to do food distributions.
