Emergency sheltering: the Shalom House is committed to emergency sheltering for homeless women and children. We provide for their basic needs: a bed, food, clothing, health and hygiene supplies, and a temporary address and telephone number. In addition, we offer extended case management and wrap around services to help women move toward self-sufficiency in efforts to break the vicious cycle of homeless. During the 21-22 fiscal year the Shalom House served 110 women and their children. All women participated intensive case management during their stay and 75% of the women moved on to a permanent housing.
Sharp program: (Shalom House after-care rapid rehousing program) serves women who are, by hud definition, chronically homeless. These are women who may have verified disability or report being hiv positive, homeless four times in three years, have monthly incomes of $600 or less, and generally have a history of substance abuse and/or mental health problems. Two thirds of the women served by sharp are women of color. The program focuses on providing rental assistance for single women who are homeless and have a disability so that they may live as independently as possible. While participating in the sharp program participants are required to develop an individual goal plan and work with our case management team to address these desired goals. During the 21-22 fiscal year the sharp program served 10 women. The women participated in monthly group session and individual case management.
