Program areas at Seniors on a Mission
Our 23-year history of providing day-long, age-appropriate "Mission Trips", otherwise known as group service opportunities, continues! Even with the pivot due to Covid, our 2,600+ senior adults have donated $3,400,000 of excellent service hours to 124 collaborating nonprofit organizations which touched the lives of 5,700,000 individuals, since we began accountng for the seniors' service time in 2005. 2022 In-kind donations totaled $83,556.00. All In-kind support is ESSENTIAL. SoaM reduced the frequency of our "traditional mission trips" after the Covid shift, but are excited to offer at least 1 - 2 every month, beyond our ever expanding program services. (Please see below our Technology PopUp services.)
SoaM's long held belief that to ultimately change isolation, loneliness, and depression in the senior population, you must enhance their home environment, which led SoaM to senior housing. Living a healthy, purpose-filled life isn't just for the young, it's also for the young at heart. With two decades of program success, the next logical step is to grow our 'program' into a 'lifestyle'. SoaM designed a moderate-income, 55+, agri-village that will allow all who live there to find purpose, build camaraderie, get healthier in a wellness-focused community that strives to honor, love, and encourage independent older adults in Body, Soul, and Spirit. This purpose-filled, faith cherishing, living environment allows for unique opportunities to offset costs by Essential Volunteer Service Hours or "sweat equity". Unlike anything currently available in today's housing market, it is an exceptional model for all aspects of living. 25+ acres of donated land in NE FL is our 2023 goal to initiate "G3 Village". It's a $35M project, w/lifelong sustainability.
In 2022, Seniors on a Mission FLORISHED! At yearend, over 300 senior adults had attended a 45-60 minute, one-on-one technology session created specifically in response to the outcry for help from the seniors themselves. We expanded our outreach through the Technology PopUps to five counties and 87% of our technology senior adult students are NEW to our organization. 98% of senior respondents agreed, or strongly agreed, that the training was beneficial; the seniors stated they were more confident using their devices, and would suggest the training to a friend or family member. 96% thought the training ENHANCED their ability to connect with family & friends. Most seniors served were low-income, with 65% living below the area median income (AMI). 82% of the seniors were over 70 years old, and EVERYONE was thankful the training was free and in a location near them!
