Food distribution: Second Harvest Food banks mission is to inspire and support Santa Cruz County to provide nourishment for all community members. Shfb acquires and distributes donated and purchased foods and united states department of agriculture (usda) commodities to people in need throughout Santa Cruz County and the pajaro valley. Second Harvest Food Bank results driven impact in the community included the distribution of 13.6 million pounds of Food providing 10.8 million healthy meals.
Education outreach: nutrition education and outreach for individuals and families in need and bilingual peer nutrition education at sites throughout Santa Cruz County as well as outreach and application assistance for the calfresh (Food stamps) program. Due to the pandemic we had to find new ways to service the community. We provided a weekly drive threw distribution site that was held either at the boardwak in Santa Cruz or the fair grounds in watsonville.
