Supported completely, or in part, ongoing Research projects and programs in over 30 areas of Research some of which include diabetes prevention, control and pathophysiology; geriatric Research and alzheimer's disease; parkinson's disease; mental health, including post-traumatic stress disorder and mild traumatic brain injury; inherited neurological disorders; oncology Research; endocrine dysfunction; pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases; substance abuse; and rehabilitative and prosthetics Research. The Biomedical and Clinical Research endeavors supported by the Institute benefit the veteran population and society at large.
The Institute has provided intramural funds to investigators for pilot or novel Research projects. Some of the projects funded include Research in basic and Clinical neuroscience.
